Being Tara Neems

Welcome to Being Tara Neems, a quiet doorway into the parts of my world I usually keep tucked between the pages of my thoughts.

Here, I write from behind a veil — not to hide, but to stay free.

This space is stitched together with the things that shape me:
the life experiences that have softened, sharpened, and reshaped me,
the little things that bother me more than they probably should,
the places I’ve travelled and the moments I’ve collected like pressed flowers,
and, of course, my favourite slices of Bollywood — the scenes, stars, and stories that add their own shimmer to my days.

Every post is a small spell —
a sigh, a confession, a memory, a dream —
shared in the hope that someone out there will feel a soft recognition in the words.

If you’re drawn to stories that shimmer at the edges,
to honesty wrapped in warmth,
to feminine magic that’s subtle but certain…
then settle in.

You’ve found my secret corner of the world.

Final Farewell Dharmendra

Farewell to a Legend: Honouring Dharmendra — Bollywood’s He-Man & Gentle Soul 🕊️

When the news of Dharmendra’s passing reached us on 24 November 2025, it felt like a part of Bollywood’s heart went silent. Dharmendra — a name that evokes strength, warmth, and timeless charisma — lived far beyond what one would expect from a film icon. His life was not only defined by the roles he played, but by who he was off screen: a simple man at heart, a devoted father, a friend to greats, and a lover of life’s simple pleasures.

🌟 From Punjab Village to Bollywood’s Pinnacle

Born Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol on 8 December 1935 in Nasrali, Punjab, he came from a modest, agrarian background. His father was a village school headmaster, and Dharmendra spent his childhood in a small village — far from the glamor of films.

He reached Mumbai only after winning a film-talent contest, dreaming of becoming like his idol, Dilip Kumar — a man whose acting moved young Dharmendra deeply.

🎬 Sholay and the Roles That Made Him Immortal

Over a career spanning six decades, Dharmendra acted in more than 300 films, becoming one of Bollywood’s most successful and versatile actors.

But among all his iconic roles, none shines brighter than Veeru in Sholay (1975). The mischievous grin, the camaraderie with Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), the friendship, the courage — Veeru became more than a character. He became a symbol of friendship, fearlessness, and youthful energy that generations still celebrate.

Beyond Sholay, he delivered memorable performances in films across genres — romance, comedy, drama, action. His work in Phool Aur Patthar, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke and many more stood testament to his range. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Personal Life: Family, Complexity, Loyalty

Dharmendra’s personal life was — like many lives — layered and sometimes complicated.

  • He married his first wife, Prakash Kaur, at age 19, long before stardom. With her, he had four children, including sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, who became well-known actors.

  • Later, his on-screen chemistry with actress Hema Malini blossomed into love. The pair married in 1980 — a union that came under scrutiny because Dharmendra was already married.

  • With Hema Malini, he had two daughters, including Esha Deol.

Despite the complexity, family remained a central anchor for him. In recent years, sources say he spent much of his time at his 100-acre farmhouse in Lonavala, often with his first wife. There, he quietly embraced a life away from spotlight — tending to his land, growing vegetables, and staying connected to his roots.

🌿 Beyond the Screen: Hobbies, Lifestyle & Staying Grounded

Even with decades of fame, Dharmendra held tightly to simple pleasures and a grounded lifestyle — something rare in the world of glamour:

  • Farming & Nature: At his farmhouse, he personally grew fruits and vegetables, living off the land.

  • Fitness & Wellness into Old Age: Even in his late 80s, he maintained an active fitness routine — practising yoga, physiotherapy, gentle exercise and sharing glimpses of his workouts on social media.

  • Simplicity & Humility: He embraced a lifestyle close to nature, often posting about seasonal produce, traditional meals, and life away from limelight.

  • Creative Soul: Beyond acting, he also loved poetry (shayari), and reportedly enjoyed writing in Hindi and Urdu.

This blend of fame and simplicity made him stand out — a superstar who never lost touch with his roots.

🤝 Friendships That Defined Him: Dilip Kumar, Salman Khan & Bonds Beyond Cinema

What made Dharmendra truly special was how deeply he valued relationships — not just professionally, but personally. Two friendships, especially, stood out:

With Dilip Kumar
Long before fame, young Dharmendra was an ardent admirer of Dilip Kumar. Inspired by his films, he once travelled to Bombay just to meet him. The story goes that on a 1952 visit, Dharmendra found himself at Dilip Kumar’s house — unannounced — driven by admiration.

Over time, that admiration blossomed into respect and deep affection. Years later, whenever Dharmendra spoke of Dilip Kumar, he called him his “elder brother” and credited him as the guiding light who inspired his entire career.
Even such a sustained bond — crossing decades — speaks to Dharmendra’s capacity for loyalty and genuine friendship.

With Salman Khan
In more recent years, Dharmendra shared a warm bond with Salman Khan — a connection admired and talked about across Bollywood. Dharmendra once recalled how Salman, then a young actor, dove into a lake to retrieve a dropped camera on a film set. That act of courage and innocence, he said, reflected Salman’s true character.
He openly called Salman a “wonderful, genuine human being,” praising him not just for stardom, but for the goodness of his heart.
For many in the industry, this bond underscored the respect and affection Dharmendra commanded — across generations.

✨ What We’ll Remember — Dharmendra’s Timeless Gifts

  • A versatile performer: From rugged hero to loving lead to character roles — Dharmendra proved he could do it all.

  • Authenticity: He never lost his connection to his roots — whether through farming, simple living, or open-hearted friendships.

  • Humility in fame: Despite being a superstar, he stayed humble, kept a quiet personal life, and valued relationships more than glitter.

  • Inspiration for health and well-being: Even near 90, his commitment to fitness, yoga, and natural living reminds us that age is only a number.

  • Legacy of love: Through his films, his children and grandchildren, and the memories he left behind, his spirit lives on.

🕯️ Final Thoughts

Writing this tribute on “Tara Neems,” I’m reminded that icons like Dharmendra are rare — people who don’t just entertain, but teach. They show us that strength can coexist with softness, fame with humility, and success with integrity.

Today, when Bollywood dims a little, it is not because a star is gone — it’s because someone who held on to what truly matters has left us.

Rest in peace, Dharamji. You reminded us that no matter how bright the spotlight, a true hero walks humbly, loves deeply, and lives simply.

Om Shanti.
